Maria Cristina Pais Simon

After obtaining a BA in Lettres Modernes and a BA in Portuguese at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris-3, Maria Cristina Pais Simon received a Master’s degree in Portuguese at the same University in 1982. In 1983, after the examinations for 'Agrégation' she prepared a DEA in Portuguese literature, and began her teaching career in secondary education in France.

In 1995 she defended Ph.D. with a thesis on Camilo Castelo Branco at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University. She obtained a position as Maître de Conférences in 1996 at the same university where she currently teaches Literature and Civilization of the Portuguese XIX Century, and Literary Translation.

As a researcher she has organized and participated in several international conferences in Europe and Brazil and has published numerous papers on the nineteenth Century.
